SLASSPA hosts awareness program for security industry

The Sri Lanka Security Service Providers Association (SLASSPA) hosted an awareness program at Chairman/Managing Director level for the Security Trade at the Ceylon Intercontinental Hotel last week.

The program was facilitated by the Defence Ministry (Civil Security) and was well attended by participants from the majority of security providers in the country.

Addressing the forum, Defence Ministry (Civil Security) Additional Secretary and Competent Authority for Private Security Agencies, Jagath Wijeweera pointed out that with the country returning to normalcy and progress gaining momentum on all fronts, it would be imperative for the security trade, which has a vital role to play to gear itself to meet the challenges of the emerging economic scenario.

This entails the infusion of professionalism from the top management to the ground level staff in the performance of their tasks, which in turn needs to be compensated with adequate returns both to the service providers and the employees.

Towards, this, it will be necessary to have a minimum rate structure by both public and private sectors with stringent standards for licensing requirements, monitored by a regulatory committee, which will also include nominees from SLASSPA.

SLASSPA President Major Vijitha Welikala delivered the keynote address, while Vice President, Major Tissa Aluwihare made the welcome speech and delivered the vote of thanks.
