Three days more for the mega event:
A limited number of special entry passes for Monday’s Observer-Mobitel
Schoolboy Cricketer of the Year Mega Awards Ceremony are available,
exclusively for the Daily News and the Sunday Observer readers on a
first come first served basis.
Adding colour to the Mega Awards ceremony will be Bhathiya & Santhush
and Centigradez. There will be several dance acts performed by renowned
artist Channa Wijewardene and his dancers.
Schoolboys and cricket fans who are interested in catching the
excitement of schoolboy stars winning the top awards could call over
Advertising Consultant’s office at ANCL, Lake House, Colombo 10 (Tel:
2429429 Ext: 302) during office honours to collect limited number of
special entry passes available.
The event is sponsored by Sri Lanka’s national mobile network, Sri
Lanka Telecom Mobitel.
Three of the best performers during the 2009/10 season have been
short-listed for the prestigious Observer-Mobitel Schoolboy Cricketer of
the Year All-Island title.
Based of their performances, the selection panel picked Kithuruwan
Vithanage (Royal), Ramesh Buddhika (Mahinda College), Banuka Rajapakse
(Royal), Charith Jayampathi (D. S. Senanayake College), Chathura Peiris
(St. Peter’s College), Anushka Samaratunga (Isipathana College), Nipun
Karunanayake (Nalanda), Maduka Liyanapathirana (Lumbini MV), Chathuranga
Kumara (St. Joseph’s College) and Kaushalya Gajasingha (Mahinda College)
for the title after initial scrutinizing. Out of those cricketers,
Kithuruwan Vithanage, Romesh Buddhika, Banuka Rajapakse, Charith
Jayampathi, Chathura Peiris, Anushka Samaratunga and Nipun Karunanayake
advanced to the second round after a through scanning by the panel. In
the final recommendations, the selection panel picked Kithuruwan
Vithanage, Banuka Rajapakse and Romesh Buddhika. The winner would be
announced at Monday’s Mega Show.
Those who were short-listed for round one of the Observer-Mobitel
Schoolboy Cricketer of the Year Outstation title were Pubudu Asanka
(Royal Panadura), Anjelo Jayasinghe (Maris Stella College), Ruwantha
Kellapotha (St. Thomas’ College, Matale), K.D. Vimukthi (Royal, Panadura),
Isuru Uditha Kumara (Royal, Panadura), Gayan Madishan (Maliyadeva
College), Chathuranga Gunasekera (Tissa Central, Kalutara), Chathuranga
Perera (Wadduwa Central), P.H.D. Kaushal (Devapathiraja MV) and Saranga
Rajaguru (Nugawela Central). The selection panel then pruned it down to
five - Pubudu Asanka, Anjelo Jayasinghe, Ruwantha Kellapotha,
Chathuranga Gunasekera, Saranga Rajaguru. The two top performers from
Outstations who have made it to the final round are Chathuranga
Gunasekera and Ruwantha Kellapotha. One of them will be crowned
Observer-Mobitel Schoolboy Cricketer of the Year (Outstation),
The special selection committees comprising umpires from the
Association of Cricket Umpires’ Sri Lanka and Sri Lanka Schools Cricket
Association had their final meeting on Wednesday to finalise the names
of award winners.
There will be over 40 different awards to be made at the Mega Show to
be held on June 14 at the Sirimavo Bandaranaike Conference Hall ‘A’,
BMICH, Colombo 7. |
