Sri Sambuddhathwa Jayanthi Year proclaimed

The Sri Sambuddhathwa Jayanthi Presidential Steering Committee has decided to take steps to proclamate, the 2600th Sri Sambuddhathwa Jayanthi year, from the Vesak full moon poya day 2010 to Vesak full moon poya day 2011.

The committee decided to hold an international Buddhist conference in Sri Lanka from May 03 to 07, 2011, to mark the Sri Sambuddhathwa Jayanthi anniversary.

The committee expects 500 delegates at the conference including about 50 foreign Buddhist leaders and Sri Lankan Buddhist leaders.

The committee expects to discuss and propose solutions to the problems facing the world Buddhists.

The committee expects the conference will encourage more tourists to the country thus boosting tourism," said Steering Committee Secretary K. Kalupahana.
