Rural roads to get uplift

Deputy Highways Minister Dr. Mervyn Silva yesterday said that the
Ministry should obtain the details of the roads that require RDA's
special attention from Parliamentarians at District level.
He added that the rural road development should be given priority.
The Minister said that he would give special focus on the road
development centred on religious places in the village.
He added that the roads leading to school, hospital and religious
places in the village need to be developed.
The Minister made this comment at a meeting with senior officials of
the Highways Ministry and the Road Development Authority at his Ministry
yesterday. He reiterated that no officer in the Highways Ministry would
be allowed to engage in corruption and he will not hesitate to take
stern action against them if he is informed of such officials even in an
anonymous way.
He instructed the RDA officials to develop the Kegalle-Ussapitiya
road which needs urgent repair.
He stressed that the Ministry is bound to implement what is outlined
in the Mahinda Chinthanaya Idiridekma to make the country miracle of
Asia.
Minister Dr. Mervyn Silva also lauded the service of President
Mahinda Rajapaksa in his capacity as the Media Minister and Ministry
Secretary Admiral Wasantha Karannagoda for the uplift of road network in
the country.
