Malaysia vows to assist Sri Lanka's development drive
Former Malaysian Prime Minister Dr. Mahathir Mohamad said that
Malaysia is willing to assist Sri Lanka in the development of local
agriculture.
Dr. Mahathir Mohamad stated this at an official meeting held with
Prime Minister D. M. Jayaratne at the Prime Minister's Office today (10)
morning.
In reply to Prime Minister D. M Jayaratne's request to assist Sri
Lanka's development program Dr. Mohamad said the Malaysian Government
will support Sri Lanka to employ modern technology in local agriculture.
The Prime Minister also requested Former Malaysian Premier to
influence Malaysian investors to exploit investment opportunities in Sri
Lanka. Prime Minister Jayaratne further stated that Government is ready
to provide infrastructure facilities for the investments.
Former Malaysian Premier and Prime Minister Jayaratne exchanged broad
views regarding Sri Lanka's development process. The Prime Minister
pointed out that with the ending of war the North and East areas have
become extremely viable for investments and employment opportunities can
be generated through extended investments.
The need to strengthen trade between the two countries was also
discussed. The Premier further pointed out that it is important to
exchange knowledge and experience that the two countries possess
regarding industrial productions. It is the aim of President Mahinda
Rajapaksa to make Sri Lanka the Miracle of Asia. |
