Mubarak, Biden talk Middle East peace
Egypt: Egypt’s President Hosni Mubarak urged Monday US Vice President
Joseph Biden for playing a more effective role to consolidate Middle
East peace amid regional tension due to the Israeli attack to an aid
flotilla.
Mubarak received US Vice President in the Red Sea resort of Sharm
el-Sheikh where Biden arrived Sunday accompanied by his wife, senior
White House staff and National Security officials. According to official
sources, Mubarak and Biden held talks about Israel’s controversial raid
on a Gaza-bound flotilla which was carrying 10,000 tones humanitarian
aid to Gaza last Monday.
Mubarak asked President Barack Obama for a convincing involvement in
the efforts for resuming Palestinian- sraeli peace process, especially
now because it is acting as mediator in the talks between the parties.
The White House obstructed in the UN Security Council the approval of
a resolution that condemn its main ally in the region (Israel), what
broke out strong critics in the Arabic-Islamic world.
According to the state MENA news agency, Mubarak and Biden also held
talks on what measures should be implemented to lift the Israeli
blockade against the Gaza Strip.
