ABA Men's and Women's Novices Championships:

Army boxers steal the limelight

Army men's and women's boxers stole the limelight on the final day of the ABA Men's and Women's Novices Boxing Championships 2010 at the Royal College Boxing Ring yesterday. In the women's bouts which was concluded prior to the men's contest K.A. Sarika of Kotelawela Defence Academy was adjudged the best boxer while L.K.M. Priyadharshani of Linea BC was adjudged best loser.

In the men's category G.H.P. Samarasinghe (Linea) was picked as the best boxer while the loser's award went to L.G.S.L. Madusanka (SLAF).

Sarika defeated K.N. Kumari of the Navy in the light welterweight under 64 kg weight category to win her title while Priyadharshini lost to M.P. Salgado (Army) in the featherweight under 57 kg weight category.

Final (Women):

Super heavyweight over 81 kgs: T.M. Weerasinghe (Army) beat L.D.Ranaweera (MAS).

Welterweight 69 kgs: U.G. Ratwatte (Army) beat J.I.Ranatunga(MAS).

Fly weight under 51 kgs: W.M. Prabandhi (Thurulie) beat M.G. Halangoda (Navy).

Bantam weight under 54 kgs: E.P. Maduwanthi beat W.C.A. Gunawardena (Silueta).

Feather weight under 57 kgs: M.P.Salgado (Army) beat L.K.Priyadhasrshani (Linea).

Light weight under 60 kgs: S.M.Samarakoon (Linea) beat T.L.Abeywardena (Thurulie).

Light weight under 64 kgs: K.A.Sarika(KDU) beat K.N.Kumari (Navy).

Light fly weight under 48 kgs: J.D.Anuradha (Thurulie)beat K.L.Niroshini(Army).
