Jobs at CTB for ex-combatants

One hundred ex-combatants out of the 529 rehabilitated youth in Jaffna will be trained in driving and jobs provided at CTB.

Northern Province Governor Major General G.A. Chandrasiri said Minister Douglas Devananda and the Rehabilitation Commissioner had handed over the 529 ex-combatants to their parents in Jaffna. “All these boys and girls have undergone vocational training at the rehabilitation centre in Jaffna,” he added.

The Northern Provincial Council has selected 100 youth to be trained as bus drivers. They will be given jobs at the CTB. The youth will be trained at the CTB depot in Kondavil- Jaffna, Major General Chandrasiri said.

The Government allocated Rs 1.5 million to train the ex-combatants as bus drivers. They will be provided Rs 300 as an allowance per day. All fees including training at the CTB, meals and accommodation will be provided during the training period, he told the Daily News.

“Our aim is to create an environment where they are accepted by the society and provide them a bright future,” he said.
