Another 700 houses are being constructed in the Kandy and Kurunegala
Districts for war heroes. The first phase will be completed in June this
year.
This is in addition to the Ipalogama war heroes housing projects,
Media Centre for National Security Director General Lakshman Hulugalle
told the Daily News.
Similar projects have already been initiated in several other
districts to provide houses for war heroes in the respective districts
under the supervision of Defence Secretary Gotabhaya Rajapaksa, he said.
Personnel from the three forces are providing the labour for
construction purposes. The project has been initiated to grant houses
under the ‘Api Wenuven Api’ Fund for those who have land but not in a
position to build due to economic difficulties. The houses will be
gifted to the family members of the war heroes who died during the
humanitarian operation or went missing in action and for those heroes
who were rendered differently abled.
The project is conducted by the Seva Vanitha Unit of the Defence
Ministry with the objective of providing a house for each hero who
rendered a great service to the motherland.
