New canal for Nagadeepa

The Irrigation and Water Resource Development Ministry will construct a canal to supply water to the Nagadeepa Water reservoir which is situated in Mahiyanganaya, Irrigation and Water Management Minister Nimal Siripala de Silva said.

Nagadeepa Water reservoir was constructed 40 years ago with the hope of providing water to the people of Nagadeepa for their agricultural activities.

There were only 1,000 families in Nagadeepa and they cultivated only 2,000 hectares of land. But today there are 3,000 families living in the area and they cultivate 8,000 hectares of land.

Therefore the water in the reservoir is not enough for them. There is no permanent waterway to get water to this reservoir, said the Minister.
