Rajapaksa and First Lady Shiranthi Rajapaksa participated in
Ranaviru Day commemoration Pirith ceremony organized by the
Defence Ministry at the BMICH Saturday. Speaker Chamal
Rajapaksa, Secretary to the President Lalith Weeratunga,
Defence Secretary Gotabhaya Rajapaksa, Army Commander Jagath
Jayasuriya, Navy Commander Thisara Samarasinghe, IGP Mahinda

Fifth In-plant Training Symposium
The “5th In-Plant Training Symposium” (IPTS - 2010) organized by the
“Centre for Agribusiness Studies” (CABS) of the Dept. of Agribusiness
Management, Faculty of Agriculture and Plantation Management of the
Wayamba University will be held on May 25 at the Makandura premises of
the University. The theme of the Symposium is “Information and
Communication Technologies in Agribusiness”. The outcome of the In-Plant
Training (IPT) program is a presentation at the IPTS, focusing on this
theme, by each final year Agribusiness Management specializing student
who had undergone six-month training at a reputable agribusiness
enterprise.
Vice chancellor Prof. A. N. F. Perera will be the Chief Guest at the
opening ceremony while a distinguished gathering comprised of academics,
professionals and managers/entrepreneurs from a number of private sector
agribusiness related companies will be among invitees “The Best IPT
Performer” and
“The IPTS Best Presenter” will be presented awards.
Army helping flood victims
The Army has been providing assistance to flood victims over the past
few days.
The Army provides flood victims with cooked food in Katunayake,
Ja-Ela, Thudellagama, Sirikotuwa and Udugama in Gampaha district. Army
officers distributed lunch packets to 645 families yesterday.
Private feud ends in bomb attack, 10 injured

Ten persons were injured in a bomb attack at Dilwin plantation and
were admitted to the Rakawana Hospital yesterday. Two of them were in a
serious condition. Police said the attack was due to a private feud
between two parities. Among the injured were two females.
Police said it had not been ascertained what type of bomb was used in
the attack and investigations were continuing.
Minister Peiris to meet Clinton, Ban
External Affairs Minister Prof. G. L. Peiris who is on an official
visit to the US is scheduled to meet US Secretary of State Hillary
Clinton, US Senators, House of Representative members and senior
officials of the Administration.
Minister Peiris is also scheduled to meet UN Secretary General Ban Ki-moon
and senior UN officials at the UN Headquarters in New York, an External
Affairs Ministry release states. |
