Vesak lantern contest at Town Hall for 13th year
A Vesak lantern competition organized by the Buddha Sasana and
Religious Affairs Ministry with the Colombo Municipal Council for the
13th consecutive year will be held at the Town Hall grounds from May 27
to 30.
Buddhist Conference to mark 2600th Sambuddha Jayanthi

In line with
the 2600th Sambuddha Jayanthi, the Government will hold an
International Buddhist Conference next year, Prime Minister D.M.
Jayaratne said Thursday.
He invited the world Buddhist community to visit Sri Lanka
during the Sambuddha Jayanthi.
The Mahinda Chintana clearly explains how to build a righteous
society and how to lead the society on the correct path, the
Prime Minister said. The Buddha Sasana and Religious Affairs
Ministry has introduced many programs to mark the Sambuddha
Jayanthi. The Government through these programs plan to make the
people aware about the Sambuddha Jayanthi, he said.

The first, second and third prize winners will receive Rs 200,000, Rs
100,000 and Rs 50,000. Those placed fourth to 10 will receive Rs 25,000
each. All other participants will receive Rs 2,500.

with local material. Prizes will be awarded to winners in both
categories.
Around 15 Vesak programs will be held under the 13th National Vesak
Ceremony from May 24 to 30.
Children’s Dhamma Art Competition, blood donation, Dhamma Desana,
meditation, exhibition of Vesak illuminations and Bhakthi Gee will also
be held.
National Vesak Ceremony Foundation Chairman Nandadasa Rajapaksa said
the National Vesak Ceremony was started by former Buddha Sasana Minister
Lakshman Jayakody.
