Drug shortage to end soon

Health Minister Maithripala Sirisena who blamed various sections of
the Ministry and institutes outside for the drug shortage in almost all
hospitals, said it will be solved by the first week of next month.
The Minister speaking at a felicitation ceremony at the Anuradhapura
Nurses’ Training College, Saturday said allocations have been made to
construct 20 clinical service centres in the Anuradhapura district.
Minister Sirisena said arrangements have been finalised to establish
employees advisory committees in every sector of the Healthcare
Ministry.
These committees will be representated by all cadres of the Ministry
from the sanitary labourer to the specialised medical practioner.
These committees will assist the Ministry to streamline health
services, he said.
A large number of doctors, nurses, medical officers of health, public
health inspectors, members of the clerical staffs, minor employees were
present to greet the Health Minister.
He stated that he has intended to delegate his ministerial powers to
all provincial Health Ministers so that they could face the challenges
confronted in handling the day to day problems and affairs in provincial
health service.
He said he successfully implemented the Sama policy while he was the
Agriculture Minister in making the Api Wawamu - Rata Nagamu a success
within three years.
“Under the auspices of President Mahinda Rajapaksa, I have succeeded
in forming a “Presidential Task Force” for the overall development and
strengthening of the national health services. A number of institutions,
departments and authorities are linked to the Task Force.
“We will have our first session on May 25 at the Health Ministry,”
the Minister revealed.
Minister Tissa Karalliyadde, North Central Governor Karunaratne
Divulgane, Chief Minister Berty Premalal Dissanayake, Provincial
Ministers H. B. Semasinghe, K. H. Nandasena, Peshala Jayaratne along
with top executives of the line Ministry and the Provincial Health
Services were present. |
