The favourites CR and FC produced a superb second half rally to beat
Sri Lanka Army Sports Club by a convincing margin of 26 points to 6 in
their Caltex inter club ‘A division league rugby tournament match worked
off at Galle Face yesterday.
CR and FC after a shaky start recovered well in the second half and
went on to collect their points from one goal, two tries, two penalties
and one drop goal after having led 14-6 at half time. Army SC responded
with two penalties.
CR and FC were restricted to a great extent in the first half where
they managed to penetrate their opponents goal line only once through
Zulki Hamid. But they had the consolation of taking the initiative with
Reza Mubarak firing across two superb penalties. In addition Nigel
Ratwatte dropped a neat goal from 25 metres out to put CR and FC in
front 14-6 at half time.
The visitors then began to play some fast open rugby in the second
half that produced two more tries as they went on to register their
second straight victory in the tournament.
Ashan de Costa and Dushanth Lewke grabbed the opportunity to score a
try each despite heavy resistance from the opposition with Reza Mubarak
successfully converting one try. |
