Rajah of racing honoured
Rajah Sinnathuray, JP, OB (London) was conferred Honorary Life
Membership at the Annual General Meeting of the Ceylon Motor Sports Club
held recently.
Rajah was a member of the Ceylon Motor Sports Club for 47 years and
was its Secretary and Committee Member for a number of years. He was All
Ceylon and All India Motor Racing Champion 250 cc.
He was the Winner of the Annesley Phillips Shield at the Mahagastota
Hill Climb while driving a Ford Anglia. He raced 3 difference bikes in 3
different classes 250 cc upto 350 cc and over 500 cc and he has been an
official for a number of events.
He has gone as Manager Motor Racing to India at his own expense. He
was also the President of the Ceylon Motor Cycle Club and Secretary of
the Ceylon Motor Sports Club. President, Automobile Association of
Ceylon and President of SLAMS (Sri Lanka Association of Motor Sports)
and he was the pioneer in drafting the SLAMS Constitution with the late
Sharker Mohideen.
He was associated with T.S. Jinasena who raced a magpie at the
Mahagastota Hill Climb. He has served in the Ceylon Motor Sports Club as
Secretary and Committee Member under the leadership of Messrs T.S.
Jinasena, Edward Mason, Aamir Sherif, Mohideen Jalaldeen and Ray De
Costa.
He has won many races in Sri Lanka and India. He came 2nd in the
overall midnight Rally organised by the Ceylon Motor Sports Club, the
winner was Ranjan Canekeratne driving a MGA and in the motor cycle
section he was the winner.
He also has taken part in the meets organised by the Ceylon Motor
Sports Club, Mahagastota Hill Climb, Karadapone Hill Climb and won many
events and took part at the Hantane Hill Climb and at Katukurunda many
times.
He has taken part at the Bangalore. Coimbatore and Madras Circuit
Races being the All India Champion.
His daughter Sashikala too has taken part in motor cycle races.
