Govt to take development to village - Vidura Wickramanayaka

Some newly appointed Members made their maiden speeches at Parliament
yesterday joining the Emergency Debate
Kalutara District UPFA MP Vidura Wickramanayaka said all should join
hands with the Government to develop the country. The development which
was confined to urban areas has now been expanded to the rural areas
under the Mahinda Chintana policy. It is necessary to address the issues
on human development similarly to the psychical development to move the
country towards success. We have been able to achieve remarkable victory
by defeating terrorism. So it is our duty to make use this victory for
the betterment of the country and the people.
UPFA MP Malani Fonseka speaking during the emergency debate, stated
it is the lasting hope of the people to see ending the emergency laws in
the country. Though the peace has dawn on our land today, we should not
forget the fact that terrorism can arise any time. It is significant
that a huge amount of funds has been allocated by the Government to
revive the cinema industry in the country.
UPFA MP Professor Rajeeva Wijesinha said certain groups who say there
is no need of special security precautions while others say the
Government should adopt stringent security measures. He said the
security situation is much better than it was a year ago.
He said that some regulations have been relaxed. The aim of the
Government is to restore normalcy as soon as possible.
Kegalle District UPFA MP Kanaka Herath said many useful policies have
already been formulated under the Mahinda Chintana program to make Sri
Lanka a prosperous country. When the development is concerned, we are
lagging behind with many countries in the world.
Therefore, it is the responsibility of all of us to make use
legislation for the betterment of the country. It is necessary to
convert this political stability given by the people to the massive
economic stability.
Colombo District UPFA MP Duminda Silva said that the Government has
received clear mandate from the public to develop the country. We will
not allow anyone to betray the confidence entrusted us by the people. It
is a historical decision taken by the President to relax certain
emergency laws.
Kandy District UPFA MP Dilum Amunugama said that people has given a
massive mandate to the Government expecting a new era. It is our duty to
fulfill their expectations and give them better lives. We as today’s
youth need to embark on new journey to fulfill the aspirations of the
people irrespective of religion, race, caste, party and colour.
Puttalam District UPFA MP Arundika Fernando joining the Debate said
that the JVP was levelling charges against the Government but they were
working in line with the agenda formed by J.R. Jayewardene. He expressed
his sympathy over bankruptcy of the JVP to work with the guidelines of
JR and the UNP that destroyed JVP’s founder Rohana Wijeweera.
He further said that the LTTE activists in overseas are attempting to
resurrect the terrorism in our soil. It was revealed that certain people
had attempted recently to feed the brains of Jaffna University students
with LTTE agenda. Therefore the continuation of Emergency Regulations
was essential.
Anuradhapura District UPFA MP Asanka Semasinghe making his maiden
speech said people in his district had faced severe hardships due to
LTTE activities for three decades. He thanked President Mahinda
Rajapaksa for eradicating LTTE terrorism from our Motherland.
Polonnaruwa District UPFA MP Roshan Ranasinghe, Digamadulla UPFA MP
Sriyani Wijewickrama, Ratnapura District UPFA Member also expressed
their views joining the Debate.
