Economic and social survey
The Economic and Social Survey of Asia and the Pacific 2010, the
flagship publication of the United Nations Economic and Social
Commission for Asia and the Pacific (ESCAP), will be launched today. The
publication of the ESCAP Survey 2010 has targeted more than 20
countries.
The launch of the ESCAP Survey 2010 in Sri Lanka will take place at
the Sri Lanka Foundation Institute (SLFI). Institute of Policy Studies (IPS)
Executive Director, Dr. Saman Kelegama will make a presentation on "Sri
Lanka: From Economic recovery to sustainable Growth", ESCAP Economic
Affairs Officer Dr. Muhammed Hussain Malik will introduce the survey.
The theme of the ESCAP Survey 2010 is "Sustaining Recovery and
Dynamism of Asia-Pacific for Inclusive Development". It reviews the
impact of the global financial crisis on the economic performance and
social development in countries of the region in 2009.
The Survey also identifies key policy respon ses that proved a
success in restoring growth and stability in 2010 and emerging
challenges that Governments are likely to face in the future.
