National Museum should be upgraded

The National Museum's annual income is 1.1 million rupees. If we can develop the museum to international standards, we could increase this income further, said National Heritage and Cultural Affairs Minister Pavitra Vanniarachchi at her first official visit to the National Museum Tuesday.

Under the awareness program needed to educate people to protect artifacts, mainly mine workers should be educated through the awareness programs. Most of mine workers are unable to recognize those artifacts and fossil. Due to this the nation has lost so many valuable things, she said.

The National Museum should be developed as a centre, providing information, entertainment and knowledge to the local and foreign tourists. Interior and exterior designing, architecture, landscape and chamber planing should be done under our culture. Most of other countries show their national identity through museums, she said.
