Educational reforms:

Integration of new subjects timely move

Higher Education Deputy Minister Nandhimithra Ekanayake said integration of a new stream of subjects having worldwide demand is a timely requirement.

The Deputy Minister expressed these views at the Asgiriya Temple, when he called on Asgiri Maha Nayaka Most Venerable Udugama Sri Buddharakkitha Mahanayake Thera.

He said the main objective of Higher Education should be the creation of an educated and intelligent society possessing social norms to protect the country.

He said the government will create a large number of intellectuals through the institutions of Higher Education.

In the journey towards progress, Contribution of intellectuals possessing skills on different fields is vital. He said intellectuals of clergy and laymen have been entrusted with a specific task in restoring cultural values that collapsed as a result of the Open Economy.

Most Venerable Udugama Sri Buddha Rakkitha Mahanayake Thera said, President Mahinda Rajapaksa is a leader of broad vision and his selection of ministers having wide knowledge on particular portfolios would be beneficial to the on going development process.

The prelate requested the general public to get together to develop the country.
