Sluice gates opened:

Flood warning

Two sluice gates of the Laxapana reservoir were opened yesterday to facilitate maintenance work. This may cause a sudden rise in the water level of the Kelani Ganga and people living on its banks down stream are advised to be vigilant for any possible eventuality, said Engineer (Operations) attached to the Reservoir.

He said similar situations may arise within the next five days too due to heavy rains experienced in the area and people living in low lying areas in Maussakelle, Norton Bridge, Maskeliya, Hatton, Ginigathena, Kithulgala, Avissawella, Deraniyagala, Kegalle, Ruwanwella and Yatiyantota should make special note of it.
