NHDA to fulfill its original duties

The National Housing Development Authority will henceforth be geared to fulfill its original duties rather than confined to collecting loan installments ,Constructions, Engineering Services, Housing and Common Amenities Minister Wimal Weerawansa said.

NHDA should engage in its original activities such as establishing modern habitats for low income earners and under served people, Minister Weerawansa added.

He was speaking at the welcome ceremony organized by the staff of NHDA at Pradeepa Hall yesterday.

Weerawansa said that the mind of a person can be converted productively by making him an owner of a house. When a person would become an owner of a house his or her attitudes will change. He will act as a useful person to society with the prestige of possessing a shelter for his/her family.

All steps will be taken shortly to re-engineer the NHDA and even forming a successor for it without any hesitation, Weerawansa said.

Recalling the history of NHDA,Weerawansa said the NHDA was a political hub of the UNP at its beginning. "I ask you to give priority to the service and uplift it. I am not concerned about political differences,'' he stressed.

He appealed to the officials to give their utmost support to uplift the NHDA and develop it.
