Money Museum for Matara

The third Money Museum of the Central Bank of Sri Lanka (CBSL) will
be opened at the Bank's Southern Provincial Office at No.35, Anagarika
Dharmapala Mawatha, Matara on Thursday.
The museum traces the evolution of money and exhibits a wide range of
currencies used in Sri Lanka from the 3rd Century BC, through the period
the country was a colony of Western powers to the period of
independence, after which the CBSL became the sole authority to issue
currency in Sri Lanka.
All notes and coins issued for circulation and commemorative coins
and notes issued to mark special events and personalities by the CBSL
since its establishment, are on display at this museum.
The museum will be open to the public from 9.00 a.m. to 4.00 p.m.
daily, except public and bank holidays Entrance will be free.
