Holcim FA Cup:

Round four Saturday

Pelicnas SC from Kurunegala and Hyline SC from Kandy moved to the fourth round of the Holcim FA Cup Soccer Championship when they recorded good wins against Golden Star SC from Kandy and Solid SC from Anuradhapura respectively.

Kurunegala Pelicans had scored 20 goals in 3 matches the highest goal aggregate so far in this tournament will meet Premier League Club New Young’s SC this week end at the Maligapitiya ground Kurunegala.

With their strikers performing so well during the past few weeks they come out as favorites in to this game.

It is noteworthy to mention that Pelicans SC had recruited two new promising players from Jaffna District to strengthen their team.

This will also give them an opportunity to meet any challenges from the other Premier Clubs.

Full credit should go to their Club President Minister Johnston Fernando for securing these lads and giving them the opportunity to play in a Premier tournament in the country.

Meanwhile the Wennapuwa’s New Youngs too will field two Nigerians with the hope of winning the game and advancing to the next round the pre-quarter finals.

This weekend will also see Jupitors SC take on hometown rivals Don Bosco in Negombo who are coming out for the first time in this tournament. Both teams will have battle hard to make their way to the next round.

Two Clubs from Kalutara Blue Star SC and Kalutara Park SC too will battle with the sole hope of entering the next round when they confront Renown SC from Hatton and Super Sun SC respectively at the Vernon Fernando stadium on Saturday and Sunday.

The games between Colombo SC and Negombo Youth SC is due to be played on Saturday while the Java Lane SC and Cooray SC match is scheduled to kick off at City Football Complex on Sunday both games at the City Football Complex.

The five players suspended for alleged match fixing charges two from Ratnams SC, one from Saunders SC, one from New Youngs SC, and one from Renown SC will not be eligible to play as their inquires are yet to be completed.

Winners of round four will play in the quarter finals are to be kicked off from May 3.
