Head-on collision kills four, 20 injured

Four people were killed (two males and two females), and 20 others
injured due to a Passenger Bus - Lorry collision at Imbulpe, Balangoda
yesterday afternoon, Police Spokesman SP Preshantha Jayakody said.
The injured were admitted to Balangoda and Ratnapura hospitals with
five of them reportedly being in a serious condition.
According to Jayakody the head-on collision had occurred around 2.30
p.m. between a passenger bus traveling from Badulla to Colombo and the
Lorry was travelling towards Badulla.
The Balangoda Police are investigating.
Abandoned infant handed over to Matara Hospital

A-day-old infant girl was found abandoned by her mother opposite the
Algiriya Community Centre Monday.
A woman who found the infant handed her over to the Matara Hospital
Premature Baby Care Unit.
A letter said to be written by the child's mother found near the
infant said she was a garment factory worker and she was leaving the
infant because she was an illegitimate child.
Saints Night 2010
The Millennium group of St. Johns College Nugegoda will present
"Saints Night 2010" at Austasia Sport and Leisure Club, Thalawathugoda
on April 30 from 7.00 p.m. It will be held in aid of the school library.

The Ceylon Workers’ Congress (CWC) holds its May Day Celebrations in
Talawakelle. It will be presided over by its President and Deputy
Minister of Economical Reform Development Muthu Sivalingam. CWC General
Secretary Arumugam Thondaman MP will be the chief guest at the May Day
celebrations.
Parliamentarians V. Radhakrishnan and P. Rajadorai will address the
May Day rally.
New Year festival

The Young Eagles’ Sports Club and Youth Club of Kottawa South have
organized a New Year festival for children on May 1 at the Sri
Dhammakiththikaramaya temple at Kottawa South. This festival is being
organized to make children aware of the Sinhala and Tamil New Year
customs and games, a member of the Organizing Committee Thanuja Pradeep
Perera told the Daily News.

Yasitha Chamod Kumara (7) of Kirigahadeniya, Nabarukkanda, Athuraliya
is suffering from bilateral conductive hearing loss. Consultant ENT
Surgeon Dr A.D.K.S.N. Yasawardena who is treating him has recommended a
Cochlear Baha implant to restore his hearing. The implant system is
estimated to cost Rs 650,000.
Chamod Kumara's parents request philanthropists and well-wishers to
