Take development to village - Minister

Public Administration and Home Affairs Minister W.D.J. Seneviratne yesterday said that his Ministry has been entrusted with the duty of strengthening the local administration mechanism to ensure that the dividends of development are enjoyed by the people at grass roots level.

Addressing the Public Administration Ministry officials after assuming duties Seneviratne said that public servants should carry the full responsibility to bring the development to the village.

The Minister said that the rural development process would be strengthened through 260 Divisional Secretariats and 14,000 Grama Niladharis in the future.

"We will review the progress of such development activities and the public servants assigned to supervise such projects in due course," he added.
