Mihintale Maha Seya to be repaired before Poson

The Mihintale Maha Seya damaged by lightning will be fully repaired and restored to its earlier grandeur before the next Poson Festival, said Anuradhapura District Secretary H. M. K. Herath at a meeting of the Poson Festival Committee held at the Mihintale Divisional Secretariat premises Tuesday.

He said a team of specialists was due to visit Mihintale yesterday to assess the damage and prepare an initial estimate about the repair work.

It included officials of the Meteorological Department, Peradeniya University Geological Department, the Archaeology Department and several other institutions.

Lake House Anuradhapura Branch Manager Sarath Perera who also attended the meeting said ANCL will assist the festival committee to celebrate Poson on a grand scale as usual this year too. This will be in addition to the Poson illuminations sponsored jointly with the CEB.
