Pettah pavements cleared

All illegal makeshift stalls were demolished by Police in the Pettah area in the last two days to avoid inconvenience to pedestrians and keep the area clean.

A pedestrian said that the removal of makeshift stalls and racks from the pavement is a good idea. Therefore, people can move freely and walk without any problem in Pettah streets.

A pavement hawker, Upali Weeratunga said that it was the work of certain politicians who do not have either any interest in the people or understand the grievances of the public. This was carried out without the knowledge of the President while he is out of the country.

"Police informed in the morning that they will remove all the makeshift stalls and racks from the sidewalks and in the night they were removed. The Government must resolve this problem and find an alternative location for us," he added.
