Affair with a rouge

Simple steps to prevent your cosmetics being melt:

It’s not just your body and skin undergo changes due to the temperatures. It can also affect your cosmetics. Experts advise that one needs to take an equal amount of care and precaution to ensure that cosmetics are protected from damage caused due to weather changes. Here are some tips:

* With temperature going up you need to make some changes to your make-up kit. Throw out anything that’s more than a year old, it will only get worse in the heat. Invest in water-proof cosmetics that last longer too.

* Lipsticks are one of the first things that are prone to damage in the heat. Carry only one with you while you are traveling and store the rest in the refrigerator to keep them from melting.

* Try as far as possible to avoid using liquid based formulae like lip gloss because they attract bacteria more easily. Go in for lip balms, eye pencils and kajal instead.

* Store your cosmetics in some place that’s away from heat and light so that they don’t get damaged easily.

Guard your lips

Some tips to protect your lips from being damaged

Constant fluctuation in temperature, especially if you’re in an air conditioned environment can lead to dry, flaky skin on your lips. But the weather is not the only reason for chapped lips. The biggest culprit could be a flavoured or fragrant lip gloss/ balm. These contain chemicals that tend to make your skin very dry, skincare consultants say. The best bet would be to use plain petroleum jelly or even paraffin wax.

Here are some quick pointers for easy lip care to keep in mind:

* It’s been said time and again, but it is important to exfoliate your lips often as this helps to prevent the accumulation of dead cells. Just rub a toothbrush over it and follow up with a lip balm.

* Don’t use any exfoliators that you would apply on your face, these will only make the skin even more dry.

* Take a look at the ingredients in your lip products, if there’s anything added for colour or aroma, skip the product, it will only add to the problem.

Stop biting or licking your lips, it’s a difficult habit to get rid of, but it works.

Use a good quality moisturizer on your lips to keep them hydrated.
