The Government will present its budget for 2010 in July that will
spell out policies and priorities of the new UPFA government.
Treasury Secretary Dr.P.B.Jayasundara said it is expected to include
details of the development program as outlined in the 'Mahinda Chinthana
Idiri Dekma' manifesto.
Improving living conditions and restoration of economic activities
through accelerated resettlement, rehabilitation and reconstruction
programs" will be given priority, he said.
He said that infrastructure is to get sufficient attention since
massive investment in infrastructure is necessary to spur growth.
He further said that after the General Elections held on April 8 it
would take at least two more months for the new government to present a
budget and more money was needed for the maintenance of public services
till then.
He said that the Vote on Account (VoA) which was approved by the
Parliament for the first four months in January this year will be over
by April 30.
"But we would not like to have a second VoA for a further two months
until the budget is presented to Parliament", he said. |
