Rain water management:

Sri Lanka to follow China

Sri Lanka is making arrangements to introduce world’s best rain water management system which is in China.

Sri Lanka uses only 40 percent of the rain water. About 60 percent of the rain water goes a waste, Irrigation and Water Resources Management Minister Nimal Siripala de Silva said.

Minister de Silva said China has the best rain water management system in the world and the best rain water harvesting system.

According to the Minister only tanks larger than 25 acres belong to the Central Government while the others are managed by the Provincial Councils.

“Therefore Provincial Councils manage the largest number of tanks. Since Provincial Councils do not have adequate funding and resources, development work of smaller tanks get delayed. This is another major problem that exists. Arrangements will be made to assist Provincial Councils to speed up the development of smaller tanks,” he said.
