Navy Commander meets Northern fishing community

Sri Lanka Navy Commander Vice Admiral Thisara Samarasinghe, during his recent official visit to the Northern Naval Area, met with the fishing community at Karainagar Island and discussed matters related to the fishing industry in the area. He looked into their professional welfare and sought their views on how best the Navy could further assist in their fishing activities.

The Commander pointed out that the restrictions which the fishing community faced during the past war period, are no more with the dawning of Peace and the Navy with the Government authorities have taken steps to uplift the professional life of all fishing communities.

He also elaborated on the concessions granted to fishing communities to engage in their livelihood with greater freedom enabling them to contribute to the island-nationís economy with increased fish harvests.
