UN laments death of Polish President
UN: UN Secretary General Ban Ki-Moon lamented on Saturday the
death of Polish President Lech Kaczynski in an air disaster in Russian
territory.
In a message circulated at the UN headquarters in New York, Ban
extols the performance of the late Polish president in serving his
people at the helm of his country. It also notes that the air crash
occurred as Kaczynski was heading for a ceremony to consolidate
relations between his country and Russia.
At least one hundred people died in the plane crash, including his
wife, the Governor of the Central Bank, the Army Chief, a Deputy Foreign
Minister and several legislators, according to official reports from
