New Year sweetmeats for all Army personnel

Army Headquarters will send the traditional sweetmeats to all camps in the North and East for the troops to celebrate the Sinhala and Hindu New Year.

Military sources said this measure was taken as a result of a concept by Army Commander Lieutenant General Jagath Jayasuriya and this program was initiated for the first time in history.

The sweetmeats comprise traditional Kevum, Kokis, Athirasa, Aggala, Dodol etc. which are associated with the New Year. The sweetmeats were prepared by the Army.

The sweetmeats will be sent to Security Forces Headquarters in Jaffna, East, Kilinochchi, Mullaittivu, Vauniya as well as in the South and from there they would be sent to the commands covering all the units of the Army.

This year's New Year celebration for the Army comes, almost after three decades of war and particularly after the elimination terrorism.
