Vishakians shine with ‘Thine Roo Prabha 2010’

Photography is an art where you feel, touch and freeze life’s
experiences on film forever. An image can speak a thousand words and
touch many lives of beholders.
The Photographic Society of Vishaka Balika Vidyalaya, Sapugaskanda,
conducted an inter-school photography exhibition and prize giving last
week. Titled ‘Thine Roo Prabha 2010’ the exhibition showcased some
colourful and black and white images frozen in time by the students.
The exhibition which brought to light some hidden photographic
talents of the students was a hallmark in the school’s 20-year history,
winning top honours for the school.
Around 30 schools were invited to take part in the exhibition which
was judged by a panel of veterans. Kelaniya University Humanities
Faculty Senior lecturer Dr. Patrick Rathnayake was the Chief Guest.
The event was held under the guidance of Sapugaskanda Vishaka Balika
Vidyalaya founder Principal D. L. Padmasheeli. Invitee school teachers,
the panel members Bandu Gunaratne, Shantha Gunaratne, Priyantha
Amarasinghe, the school’s photographic society advisor Chandrasena
Perera, Chief Instructor Narada Amaratunga Arachchi, S. D. Piyasiri, G.
Samuel Neshakumar of Kodak, Kribathgoda Lakseya Chief and several others
including teachers-in-charge and staff members took part in the program.
Sapugaskanda Vishaka Vidyalaya was incepted on March 24, 1991, with
just 171 students. As the years flew by it achieved fame as well as grew
in numbers. Today the student population exceeding 3,000. One of their
biggest achievements is winning the National Productivity Award 2008. |
