UNP for economic development

The auspicious colour of the forthcoming Sinhala New Year is green. A UNP led government will be in power by the New Year and in two years time the famine in the country will be over, UNP and Opposition Leader Ranil Wickremesinghe said.

Addressing a UNF election rally at the Sanath Jayasuriya Stadium, Matara yesterday he said he asked voters during the last election two years to develop human resources and provide employment to the youth after enhancing their vocational skills.

It should be remembered that it took only two years for President Premadasa to start garment industries in rural areas, he said.

“Give us two years and we will implement a wide economic development program.

“It is not necessary to build flyovers as we have them already but we have to concentrate on economic development and eradicate corruption and violence. When we come to power we will tell the countries that had lent us funds to give us two years to clear the debt”, he said.

The UNP Leader said on April 8 a UNF government will come to power and with the co-operation of the other political parties will resolve the economic disaster that the country was facing.
