Launch of Art Room Tales

The Hardy Centre of Art will launch a book - Art Room Tales at Anilana Hotels, 250, Park Street, Colombo 2 on April 2. This book consists of over 100 stories all authorised and illustrated by students of Hardy Centre of Art.


Blood donation

A blood donation campaign organised by the Puttalam District Sri Lanka Red Cross Society in association with the Sri Lanka Blood Bank will be held at the Government Hospital at Pallama on April 2 from 9.00 a.m. to 4.00 p.m.


Easter Programs

Several programs have been organised by St. Philip Neri's Church, Colombo for Easter.

April 1: 5.00 p.m. Eucharistic Celebration, 6.30 p.m. Mass of the Lord's Supper followed by Holy Hour (English) and 8.30 p.m. Holy Hour (Tamil)

April 2: Reflection on the passion of Christ, 8.30 - 9.30 a.m. (Tamil), 10.00 - 11.00 a.m. (English), 11.30 - 12.30 p.m. (Sinhala) and 2.00 p.m. the way of the cross.

3.15 p.m. celebration of the Lord's passion.


Good Friday Film

The film Behold The Lamb Of God will be screened on April 2 at 6.00 p.m. at New Covenant Church, 59, E.S. Fernando Mawatha, Wellawatte, Colombo 6. The Easter Sunday service will be at 10.00 a.m.


Easter service

The Church of St. Michael and All Angels, Polwatte, Colombo 3 will have an Easter Carol Service on April 4 at 6 p.m. as part of the celebrations for Eastertide.

It will consist of Bible readings, poems, anthems and popular Easter hymns. At the Organ will be Denham Pereira.


Minister's supporters attacked

Gampola Police are investigating an alleged attack on a group supporting the candidature of Power Minister Mahindananda Aluthgamage at Galgediyawa, Gampola by a group of underworld characters brought down from Colombo.

Eight persons injured in the attack have been admitted to the Gampola hospital.


Call girl racket under health clinic guise

Health authorities raided a bogus health clinic operated by foreign nationals in a residential area in Colombo.

It was reported that the clinic was used as a cover by the foreigners to operate a call girl racket. Although the “clinic” run in an address in Colombo 3 was registered under the Company’s Act, it had failed to register itself with the National Drugs Authority although it had stocks of Western medicine and medical equipment inside its premises at the time of the raid. Although Chinese women at the “clinic” at the time of raid said they had a doctor there was no indication that such a doctor existed.


Wijayaba bags Battalion Championship

The Wijayaba National School, Hungama won the 10th Battalion Championship during the final parade of the Annual Assessment camp held at the National Cadet Corps Training centre Rantambe recently.

The second and third places were won by Ambalantota MV, Ambalantota and Debarawewa National School, Tissamaharama respectively. National Cadet Corps Director Major General Gamini Jayasundara RWP RSP was the chief guest of the event.


New hostel building for Ananda Balika

A new school hostel building constructed at a cost of Rs 30 million at the Ananda Balika Vidyalaya, Colombo will be declared open today by Prime Minister Ratnasiri Wickramanayaka. The total allocations for this were provided by the Education Ministry under the direction of Education Minister Susil Premajayantha.

Around 100 students will be accommodated at this hostel a spokesman for the school told the Daily News.

This hostel will be equipped with furniture given by the Ministry at an additional cost of Rs one million.


Lecture

The Institution of Engineers Sri Lanka (IESL) has organized a public lecture/demonstration on 'Advanced Prostheses' (Artificial Body Parts), by AWAAS International (Pvt) Ltd Chairman Aruna Samarawickrama at the Wimalasurendra Auditorium, 120/15, Wijerama Mawatha, Colombo 7 on March 31, Wednesday at 5 p.m. All are welcome.


WASLAM AGM

The Malay Women's Association of Sri Lanka (WASLAM) (Persatuan Wanita Melayu Sri Lanka) will be launched on Sunday April 4 with the inaugural Annual General Meeting at 3.30 p.m. at the Sasakawa Hall, Colombo 3.
