Ramya Weerakoon

Trendy Wear commenced operations of their newly opened garment factory in Adikarigama, Hanguranketa recently.

This is a BOI project with an investment of Rs 350 million.

Ramya Holdings, Chairperson Ramya Weerakoon told the Daily News Business that the company has already started operations with 750 workers. But it will be fully operational in May this year once the construction work of the new building is completed.

The company is named Trendy Wear Adikarigama (Pvt) Ltd.

Weerakoon said by setting up this factory in a rural area such as Adikarigama has enabled them to get employees conveniently while empowering rural women.

They will be provided with transport and other facilities to come to

work and it will result in upgrading the standard of people living there.

There will be employment opportunities for 1500 with the expansion of the factory and 75 percent of them will be women.

They will be trained at Kadawatha Trendy Wear head office and several key people will be hired from outside. Weerakoon said the demand for Trendy Wear Garments in the international market is very encouraging as their clients have increased orders and some new buyers from Switzerland also have given orders. UK and USA are the main buyers of Trendy Wear apparels.

The factory will work to full capacity during peak time from May to September with six other sub contractors to meet the demand.
