Trendy Wear opens new factory in Hanguranketa

Trendy Wear commenced operations of their newly opened garment
factory in Adikarigama, Hanguranketa recently.
This is a BOI project with an investment of Rs 350 million.
Ramya Holdings, Chairperson Ramya Weerakoon told the Daily News
Business that the company has already started operations with 750
workers. But it will be fully operational in May this year once the
construction work of the new building is completed.
The company is named Trendy Wear Adikarigama (Pvt) Ltd.
Weerakoon said by setting up this factory in a rural area such as
Adikarigama has enabled them to get employees conveniently while
empowering rural women.
They will be provided with transport and other facilities to come to
work and it will result in upgrading the standard of people living
there.
There will be employment opportunities for 1500 with the expansion of
the factory and 75 percent of them will be women.
They will be trained at Kadawatha Trendy Wear head office and several
key people will be hired from outside. Weerakoon said the demand for
Trendy Wear Garments in the international market is very encouraging as
their clients have increased orders and some new buyers from Switzerland
also have given orders. UK and USA are the main buyers of Trendy Wear
apparels.
The factory will work to full capacity during peak time from May to
September with six other sub contractors to meet the demand.
