IP to be in charge:

Police posts at District Secretariats for poll

Every police post that has been set up in each District Secretariat for special election duty at the forthcoming General Election, will be headed by an IP, the head of the Police Election Secretariat, Senior DIG Gamini Nawarathna said.

He further added that all these IPs are appointed to assist the returning officers in the districts to hold a free and fair election. All complaints could be directed to these officers and they have been vested with full powers to take action without any outside interference, he said.

By yesterday, 20 election complaints have been reported and all these were minor in nature, the DIG said.
