Pehesaraniya 2010 unfurls artistic talent

Colombo Devi Balika Vidyalaya Art Society held an exhibition of art
titled Pehesaraniya 2010 on Febuary 25 at National Art Gallery. The
Chief Guest on the occasion was Visdual Arts and Performing Arts
University Senior Lecturer W.A. Ariyasena.
Art for the exhibition was chosen from several competitive
categories, said Lalitha Munasinghe, one of the two teachers in charge
of the Art Society. Entries were invited from the school’s Year 6 to 13,
university students, teaching staff, all other schools and individuals
above 40 years of age.
“We received 5,200 entries in five categories from other schools,”
said Munasinghe. “All expenses of the event were borne by the Parents
Committee,” said Anomajee Rajapaksha, the other Art teacher of the
school. A souvenir with the paintings of students, distributed at the
exhibition, was sponsored by Pentium Co.
The exhibition commenced with awarding winners of medals and prizes.
C.T.D. Sri Ashini Sashiprabha in Year 13, was the Devi Balika Vidyalaya
student to win the highest number of awards. She clinched the first
place in categories ‘Figures’, ‘Objects’ and ‘Pencil Drawings’ besides
five other awards. Ashini, who paints from her childhood, studies in the
arts stream and hopes to continue to develop her talents in art. |
