CPC UNP member says:
‘Alternative decision if my views are ignored’
Protests against fielding Mano Ganeshan from Kandy:
Central Provincial Council UNP Member S. Rajaratnam has warned that
he might have to take alternative steps if the leadership fields Mano
Ganeshan in the Kandy District.
He said that there is an opportunity to elect a Tamil representative
from the Kandy District. Therefore, the UNP should not take any decision
to destroy this opportunity. He added that he had informed the UNP
leadership about it.
Rajaratnam, a former Parliamentarian said he had been in politics for
a long time. The UNP had selected him as its candidate. However, there
was a move to field Mano Ganeshan also as a candidate, he said.
Rajaratnam has warned that if the UNP did not listen to his views, he
had no other way but to take an alternative decision.
Meanwhile, the National Workers Union has warned the UNP that if
there was no consensus to field two candidates and obtain a membership
from the National List it would contest separately.
This decision was taken on Saturday at a meeting of estate committee
leaders, said Central Provincial Council Member P. Dihambaram. This
trade union has two members in the Central Provincial Council.
Meanwhile, the Ceylon Workers’ Congress has decided to introduce a new
face as its candidate in the Matale District. Former principal Senthil
Sivaganam had been selected and will contest under the UPFA, CWC sources
