Gampaha can be best self-sufficient district in two years - Basil

Twenty one UPFA candidates handed over nominations yesterday to
Gampaha District Secretary and Gampaha District Returning Officer P.A.
Abeysekera under the leadership of Senior Presidential Advisor Basil
Rajapaksa to contest the April 8 General Election.
Gampaha district UPFA leader Basil Rajapaksa said the agro-based
Gampaha District is with full of resources and it is not a difficult
task to promote it to one of the best self-sufficient districts within
two years.
Addressing a mass rally at the Gampaha Municipal Grounds following
the nominations, he said: “Utilising the prudent vision, President
Mahinda Rajapaksa successfully won the war which was a cancerous scourge
to develop the country.
He has completed his mission successfully and now the mission before
us is to wage the development war.”
He said the people in the Gampaha District had voted for President at
the Presidential election en masse and hoped that the Government will
collect the largest majority from Gampaha District in the forthcoming
election in comparison to the other Districts.
Sri Lanka Freedom Party General Secretary Maithripala Sirisena said
the people in the Gampaha District are fortunate to have the leadership
of an efficient politician like Basil Rajapaksa and he could be named as
a ‘real worker.’
“President Rajapaksa had entrusted a daunting task on the shoulders
of Basil Rajapaksa to develop the second largest District in the country
and it should be our duty to strengthen him to make Sri Lanka the best
country in Asia,” he said.
The Sri Lanka Labour Party, Janasetha Peramuna and an Independent
Group consisting 21 candidates for each group also handed over
nominations.
