Gampaha can be best self-sufficient district in two years - Basil

Twenty one UPFA candidates handed over nominations yesterday to Gampaha District Secretary and Gampaha District Returning Officer P.A. Abeysekera under the leadership of Senior Presidential Advisor Basil Rajapaksa to contest the April 8 General Election.

Gampaha district UPFA leader Basil Rajapaksa said the agro-based Gampaha District is with full of resources and it is not a difficult task to promote it to one of the best self-sufficient districts within two years.

Addressing a mass rally at the Gampaha Municipal Grounds following the nominations, he said: “Utilising the prudent vision, President Mahinda Rajapaksa successfully won the war which was a cancerous scourge to develop the country.

He has completed his mission successfully and now the mission before us is to wage the development war.”

He said the people in the Gampaha District had voted for President at the Presidential election en masse and hoped that the Government will collect the largest majority from Gampaha District in the forthcoming election in comparison to the other Districts.

Sri Lanka Freedom Party General Secretary Maithripala Sirisena said the people in the Gampaha District are fortunate to have the leadership of an efficient politician like Basil Rajapaksa and he could be named as a ‘real worker.’

“President Rajapaksa had entrusted a daunting task on the shoulders of Basil Rajapaksa to develop the second largest District in the country and it should be our duty to strengthen him to make Sri Lanka the best country in Asia,” he said.

The Sri Lanka Labour Party, Janasetha Peramuna and an Independent Group consisting 21 candidates for each group also handed over nominations.
