Opposition Leader Ranil Wickremesinghe is doing his utmost to drive a
wedge between the Maha sangha and his charge against a group of members
of the Maha sangha who visited the Malwatta prelate as trying to commit
heresy should be vehemently condemned, Transport Minister Dullus
Alahapperuma said. “He is trying to expose his lack of knowledge on
Buddhism. Such behaviour is his characteristic and has become a
tradition of him,” he said.
The Minister was speaking at a UPFA Media Conference at the Mahaweli
Centre yesterday.
Minister Alahapperuma asked the Opposition and its media friends as
to why they were silent on the charges made against Sarath Fonseka and
his son-in-law. What would be their reaction if this was committed by
persons connected to the Government. .
He strongly condemned the actions of JVP leader Somawansa Amarasinghe
at the protest campaign held recently at the Lipton Roundabout where he
displayed his ignorance before the public.
