More funds for Northern schools

Senior Presidential Advisor and Presidential Task Force for Northern
Province Chairman Basil Rajapaksa has allocated Rs. 100M to construct 23
schools in the Jaffna District on the Governor’s request. The
construction will be under Vadakin Vasantham Program.
Out of which 14 school buildings have already been completed and
opened by the Northern Province Governor, Major General G.A. Chandrasiri
on February 18. The balance 9 buildings will also be opened for the
schoolchildren in soon, said the Northern Governor.
A new Computer Resource Centre for Islands, Zonal Area in Velanai was
also opened on the same day by the Northern Province Governor. Under the
Presidents islandwide program to uplift the information technology, the
Government has decided to establish this computer resource centre in
Sarasvati Maha Vidyalaya in Valanai, Jaffna with the help of Asian
Development Bank. There are 59 schools in Velanai educational zone, said
the Governor.
Education Ministry Secretary, Northern Province L. Ilglovanan, Zonal
Director, Zonal Department of Education, Islands V. Rathakirishnan and
other Education Sector officials also participated.
