One billion people suffer from hunger

Italy: President of the International Fund for Agricultural Development (IFAD) Kanayo Nwanze, stated on Wednesday the number of hungry people in the world exceeds one billion.

During the opening of the 33rd IFAD governing council, Nwanze convened to consider agriculture as a key resource to face the economic crisis, whose consequences include increasing the number of hungry people in the world.

According to the President of this United Nations institution, a record number of malnourished, which in 2009 reached one billion , was largely overcome.

He pointed out nowadays 31 countries depend on food aid of which 20 are in Africa. Rome, Prensa Latina
