Mithun Perera meets Prabhakaran
Richard Dwight
Sri Lankan golfers Mithun and Prabhakaran gave a good account of
themselves to win the team event of the All India Amateur Golf
Championship in Pune. Both have made the right kind of impression to
become eligible to compete in the match play format.
Mithun and Prabhakaran made quite an impact in the first round match,
when the two of them easily beat Aditya Bhandarkar and Ajaya Singh of
India. It does not augur well to find that by a quirk of fate Mithun has
drawn Prabhakaran to play in the second round.
They were both playing ever so well, and it would be bitter to see
either of them eliminated.
The Indians who do seem quite formidable are progressing onto the
other rounds which end on February 19.
Remarkable it was to learn that eighth seed Kanishk Madan accounted
for Gagan, while Bangalores Udayan Mane beat Bajaj a highly ranked
player. C. G. Somiah from Bangalore did well to beat the prestigious
second seed Abhijit Chadha.
Top seed Chikkarangappa has got past his opponents and appears to
make headway.
Competition from the bottom seeds seems to be on, and the matches are
still open. |
