Food poisoning: Over 115 students hospitalised

Over 115 students of Kandakuliya Sinhala Maha Vidyalaya were admitted
to the Kalpitiya Hospital with symptoms of food poisoning.
The students had complained of stomach aches and later started
vomiting. This is after they had lunch which included prawns and several
other items given by the school as their mid-day meal.
According to Kalpitiya Hospital Acting Medical Officer S. Seneviratne,
12 students who continued vomiting and suffering from serious stomach
aches were transferred to the Puttalam General Hospital while 58
students were treated at the Kalpitiya Hospital.
A senior health official in the Puttalam district said 45 students
were discharged from hospital after receiving treatment and the
condition of students being treated at the Kalpitiya Hospital and
Puttalam Base hospital were not serious.
The health official said a sample of the food was sent to the
Government Analyst for a comprehensive report.
Meanwhile, 40 youth attached to the National Youth Corp in Naula were
admitted to the Matale General Hospital due to food poisoning.
According to the hospital official their condition were not serious. |
