CWC to contest with UPFA
M. P. Muttiah
The Ceylon Workers’ Congress would contest jointly with the United
People’s Freedom Alliance at the forthcoming Parliamentary Elections,
said CWC President and Estate Infrastructure Deputy Minister Muthu
Sivalingam.
Muthu Sivalingam said the CWC extended its support to President
Mahinda Rajapaksa at the Presidential Election. When compared with the
2005 Presidential Election, the President had obtained more votes in the
plantation areas.
The CWC is duty bound to strengthen the hands of President Mahinda
Rajapaksa and serve the community better, he added.
The Deputy Minister said the CWC contested with the UPFA at the local
government and provincial council elections.
Meanwhile, the Upcountry People’s Front’s Vice President and
Vocational Training Deputy Minister P. Radhakrishnan said his party’s
General Council would decide whether to join hands or not with the UPFA.
However, he said it would be easy to serve the people by joining hands
with the Government instead of going alone. The UPF always worked with
such far-sightedness, he said.
