Thurstan skipper Shehan passes 1,000-run mark

Thurstan College skipper Shehan Kamalean had the rare honour of completing one thousand runs for the season on the opening day of their inter school under 19 cricket tournament match against Maliyadeva College which commenced at Kurunegala yesterday.

The elegant right hand middle order batsman hit another magnificent century to help his team amass a massive 340 for 8 in their first innings. Kamalean hoisted two sixes and stroked a dozen boundaries during his knock of 116 and brought his overall tally to 1,053 runs from 16 matches.

Isipatana shot out for 75

A total of 23 wickets tumbled on a dramatic opening dayís play of the inter school under 19 cricket tournament match between Isipatana College and Lumbini MV which commenced at the Colts CC ground in Havelock Park yesterday.

Lumbini MV were dismissed for 160 runs in their first innings with left arm spinner Anushka Samaratunga returning excellent figures of seven wickets for 55. However Sri Lanka youth cap Madhuka Liyanapathirana produced an equally good bowling performance for Lumbini MV as Isipatana in reply were shot out for just 75 runs.

Chief scores:

Lumbini MV: 160 (R. Sandaruwan 26, D. Priyadarshana 55, V. Sanjaya 28, A. Samaratunga 7 for 55) and 55 for 3 (A. Rusiru 27 n.o, D. Sulochana 2 for 23)

Isipatana: 75 (N. Sasanka 22, M. Liyanapathirana 6 for 25, P. Jayasuriya 2 for 6, V. Sanjaya 2 for 34)

Sebastianites pile up 307/9

Two splendid half centuries from Anuk de Alwis and Samitha de Mel helped St. Sebastianís College pile up a formidable 307 for 9 in their first innings on the opening day of their inter school under 19 cricket tournament match against Nalanda College which began at Campbell Place yesterday.

De Alwis hit a top score 89 and put on 149 runs for the seventh wicket along with Samitha de Mel (70).
