Power transmission lines to be upgraded

The Power and Energy Ministry in a bid to minimize electricity
wastage has decided to upgrade the main transmission lines in the
country with ADB financial assistance
Ministry sources said the transmission lines have not been upgraded
for over five decades.

The Ceylon Electricity Board will utilize the latest technology to
modernize these transmission lines and several substations will also be
developed under this program which is estimated to cost Rs. 16,000
million, sources said.
The public will receive a streamlined power supply with the
completion of this project. Meanwhile, a Power and Energy Ministry
release said the Asian Development Bank will upgrade the six decade old
electricity transmission network in the island.
Under this project, sub-stations in the North and East will be
developed while Habarana and Valachchenai sub station lines will be
newly constructed.
This new scheme once completed will minimise the wastage of power
experienced between old power transmission lines and sub-stations and
ensure an efficient service to consumers at a bearable and competitive
rate. |
