Sampath Bank in convincing 73 run win over Seylan

Skipper Kaushal Silva hit a fighting half century and Nuwan Perera captured his second five wicket haul as Sampath Bank cruised to a convincing 73 run victory over Seylan Bank in their Singer MCA Premier League tournament fixture worked off at the Colts CC ground in Havelock Park yesterday.

Wicket keeper batsman Kaushal Silva hit a top score of 65 and received good support from Shantha Kalawitigoda, Hasantha Fernando and Jeevan Mendis as Sampath Bank piled up a formidable 277 for 9 from their 50 overs.

In reply Seylan Bank were dismissed for 206 runs despite a magnificent 126 from opener Kanchana Gunawardena who hoisted three sixes and struck ten boundaries.

Nuwan Perera was the chief wrecker with excellent figures of five wickets for 34 runs.

With this fourth successive victory, Sampath Bank have virtually ensured their chances of winning the Singer MCA Premier League title for 2010.

HNB edge out Janashakthi

Hatton National Bank edged out Janashakthi by one run in a thrilling Singer MCA Premier League tournament match played at Reid Avenue yesterday.

Janashakthi were dismissed for 189 runs in the last ball of the innings after Hatton National Bank had earlier reached 190 from 43.3 overs.

Spinner Ranil Dhammika was the match winner for Hatton National Bank with four wickets for 30 runs.

Van Dort steers John Keells

Former Sri Lanka opening batsman Michael van Dort hit a top score of 85 as John Keells defeated Unichela by seven wickets in their Singer MCA Premier League tournament match worked off at the P. Saravanamuttu Oval yesterday.

Van Dort stroked eight fours and hoisted two sixes and received good support from Dimuth Karunaratne who remained unbeaten 60.

Unichela: 209 in 46 overs (A. Sandaruwan 52, M. Silva 38 n.o, S. Karunanayake 25, S. Eranda 4 for 60, J. Gunaratne 2 for 20, U. Indrasiri 2 for 30).

Superb double by Roshane

A fine all round performance from Man of the Match and Man of the Series Roshane Silva helped LB Finance beat Commercial Bank by 34 runs in the MCA ‘C’ division cricket tournament final worked off at the P. Saravanamuttu Oval on Sunday.
